Perfect timing for a newborn session.
Parents Mike and Trang came to me when Trang was about 30 weeks pregnant. I was 32 weeks pregnant at the time! They had inquired about maternity and newborn photos and I explained that newborn probably wouldn’t work out with our due dates so close together. My worry was that I would deliver late, they would deliver early, and I’d literally be in labor during their photo shoot. Alas, we carefully set out a plan to photograph baby Alex sometime after he was born and they knew of the possibility for waiting a bit longer (or being rescheduled due to labor!)
Due dates and planning for newborn photos.
There is a reason I laugh at due dates, and it is because I’ve delivered two babies at 42 weeks. This meant I had my baby 2 days before Trang’s due date. And then she had her baby 3 days later! By some miracle all the stars aligned and gave me a super smooth recovery, and a chill baby girl who allowed me to conduct Alex’s newborn session at 16 days old. Looking back at it, it seems pretty crazy that I was out in the studio at less than 3 weeks postpartum, but in honesty, I had already done some of my own daughter’s photos by that point.
Holiday themes for babies.
I don’t often do super seasonally themed newborn photos because I want the images to be timeless, but I like using color as a nod to the holidays. We opted for separate red and green sets, and I combined the colors for a few images. I also used a light blue ensemble and added a tiny snowman to a few.
