The package rate for newborn photo sessions is inclusive of the session along with products. There can be many options when choosing a photographer and it is important to remember that the deliverables are different across the board and this may affect the value of the overall package.
At a bare minimum, when you book a session, you are paying for a session fee or sitting fee. This initial charge may or may not include tangible or digital products. If you are booking a sitting fee, it would not. From there, you can expect to spend well over the session fee cost on products down the line.
Another model of booking is the session + product credit model. This booking would include a photo sitting, along with a dollar amount to put toward your printed or digital products. You can still expect to spend additional money to complete your order.
Building on the above, a full service photographer will also include meetings with them ahead of the session for planning and styling, and will meet with you to help you decide on the final products you wish to purchase. Any included product credit in your initial booking fee is applied toward your order.
At Jennifer McNeil Photography, my booking fee for the newborn photo experience is a sitting fee. We plan in advance for the session, discussing styling and colors. Once you see the images, you choose your favorites for the artwork and can choose any combination of products you would like. This gives you the freedom to create your own collection. Some photographers offer digital images, and some do not. For most professional full service photographers, digital images are not included in the session fee. Digital images are not considered tangible artwork but are a valuable product for anyone who wants to share the images online and/or print small prints for family members. At Jennifer McNeil Photography, I offer a hybrid model which emphasizes the enjoyment of tangible artwork over digital files, however digital images are also available.
The total investment for newborn photography is inclusive of your session fee and any artwork or products you purchase. At our studio, clients typically spend in the thousands, choosing multiple pieces of high quality, tangible artwork to display and enjoy, along with digital images that can be shared with friends and family.
