Choosing A Color Palate

NEWBORN SESSION COLOR SCHEME

How to Choose a Newborn Session Color Scheme

Choosing the color scheme for your newborn photos is an important step in the planning process for beautiful images.  There are three things to consider when deciding what colors you’ll want your photographer to use in the styling of the session.

1. The Photographer’s Closet

First, knowing what your options are for colors gives you a starting point. Is your photographer’s style bold and bright, soft and subdued, or nothing but neutrals? Most newborn photographers offer a range of colors for their props, wraps and accessories, but taking a look through their newborn portfolio will give you a good indication of their overall approach to color.  It will give you ideas for color combinations and you’ll also get a peek into the popular props and accessories for the session. Of course if you are not sure you’re seeing exactly what you have in mind, you can always ask – I know I love creating set ups with an extra-special touch for my clients.

2. The Colors in Your Home

Once you see what colors are available, you can start thinking about which colors would coordinate nicely with the existing decor in your home. This is especially important for images you envision being displayed in your home. You can consider where you may put the finished artwork such as newborn photos in the nursery or family photos in the living room.  Oftentimes frame moulding selections can be made to match existing frames or blend well with other artwork you may have in your home, but the colors in the photos should also pair well with your overall style and color palette.

3. Your Favorite Colors for a Newborn Session Color Scheme

Your personal preferences for color should definitely contribute to the styling of the session and is another important part of choosing your color scheme.  After all, this is for you and your family. Many people choose colors that represent a favorite team, the color scheme from their wedding, or an alma matter. Even if you like the idea of neutrals to adorn the walls in your home, don’t hesitate to mention that your favorite color is teal – perhaps one of the several looks can be that pop of color!

Now that you’ve started thinking about colors, I’d love to hear those thoughts! I personally read and rescind to all of my emails, so please reach out and let me know your color preferences, or share any other ideas you’d like!

Kind Words

She made us laugh and we felt like we were hanging out with a friend. She’s the kind of person you would want to go for coffee when the shoot is done just to chat.
