Let’s talk pregnancy underwear! This is a topic that comes up a lot and even though those undergarments aren’t seen in most photos, it’s super important to get it right! Bodies change a lot during pregnancy, and how your underwear fit you will change as well. Specifically for maternity photos, it’s best to find something that is no-show or seamless to avoid bunching and lines under your maternity gown.
How does one go about finding the right pregnancy undergarments? My absolute favorite for underwear bottoms during pregnancy photos (or anytime really) is a laser cut, seam free edge. PINK and Victoria Secret both have them in standard sizes. Try the no-show cheekster or the no show boyshort panty which are both available in a wide variety of skin tones best for a true no-show under gowns. I’ve also recently found maternity specific pairs here on temu.com. The under belly cut will help with the fit around your mid section, and these smooth microfiber undies are so soft and and thin you truly don’t have to worry about stubborn panty lines. Be sure to size up to avoid tightly stretched fabric that will bunch.
Remember these 3 things when purchasing underwear for your maternity photos:
Now on to bras! Finding a good fitting bra can be a challenge for anyone, but especially during pregnancy as your body is changing and you may find your breasts to be an unexpected change as well. For the day to day, it’s definitely possible to wear your pre-pregnancy bras comfortably by adjusting the clasps and straps to fit your changing curves, however for your maternity session, here are some things to keep in mind. A tight bra band may lead to the creation of ripples and bumps in your skin. Sizing up can help with this and ultimately will be more comfortable. Another option is to add an extender. But if you plan to breastfeed, consider purchasing a nursing bra in a larger size so that is serves a dual purpose. The same goes for the cup size as well. As your breasts swell to prepare for baby, it can lead to a spillover effect in your pre-pregnancy bra. A larger cup size will be more comfortable and leave you less worried about any wardrobe malfunction moments.
Most important considerations when deciding on a bra for maternity photos:
For many maternity gowns, a strapless bra is the way to go. Unfortunately there isn’t a great strapless option for practicality after birth, but I do carry a few in the studio along with extenders to help you find the perfect fit under any gown. If you are larger chested and need the support of straps – go that route and we will choose a gown that works best for you. Bra straps can almost always be retouched out of images, too, if necessary, so your comfort is the priority here.
The above sections all talk about the best underwear to wear UNDER your maternity gown. However if you are planning an intimate studio session and want to show off those beautiful undergarments here are some tips:

I love the simplicity of the fabric wraps. Can you achieve this look if a woman wants to keep undies on?
Yes! Mock-nude images are definitely possible – everyone has different comfort levels and we discuss all of that during your pre-session consultation.
